After years of inaction under Labor, the LNP Government is getting on with delivering major investments in community safety, essential services and local infrastructure for the Scenic Rim, while also supporting first home buyers, community organisations and businesses across the region.
As a result of my continued advocation for upgrades to local roads, the long-awaited safety upgrade of the Beaudesert-Nerang Road between Mundoolun Connection Road, Wonglepong and Biddaddaba Road, Biddaddaba has been successfully completed by the LNP Government.
The Mount Lindesay Highway is currently undergoing works for lane duplication in Jimboomba and for an intersection upgrade at Kooralbyn, with more upgrades on the way.
The opening of a new $434,769 extension to the Mount Forbes Rural Fire Brigade station has strengthened bushfire readiness throughout the Scenic Rim. It will contribute not only to its own community, but to rural fire operations across the Scenic Rim.
In other fire safety initiatives, $1 million has been allocated for the Biddaddaba Rural Fire Brigade and $1.4 million for the Mount Alford Rural Fire Brigade. Boonah Auxiliary Fire and Rescue Station has been allocated $4 million toward the replacement of its current station.
During 2026, we implemented several new laws under our Making Queensland Safer initiative -Adult Crime, Adult Time; Daniel’s Law; and Jack’s Law- along with stronger bail enforcement and victims’ rights reforms. Police resources have been boosted, and early intervention programs are under way to break the cycle of youth offending. We’ve also passed a bill expanding Queensland Health’s powers to seize stock, shut stores, and penalise illegal tobacco traders. Landlords are now able to terminate leases with dodgy tenants and can be held accountable for knowingly permitting illegal tobacco activity.
Beaudesert’s new $19.4 million courthouse was opened, replacing the structure built in 1969. It includes state-of-the-art facilities to bring faster access to justice for victims and provide security for witnesses, with secure custodial access integrated into the adjacent Beaudesert Police Station, and a modern security checkpoint at the entrance.
Small and family business precincts will benefit from investment in critical crime prevention measures in Beaudesert and Canungra by funding provided through the LNP Government’s Secure Communities Partnership. The CClV network in both towns will be upgraded and will improve surveillance, help deter crime, and assist law enforcement in investigating unlawful activities.
On the health front, we are delivering a new CT scanner for Beaudesert Hospital, as well as additional staff. Access to local imaging services in Beaudesert will allow serious medical conditions to be diagnosed and treated earlier for people living in Beaudesert and the wider community.
The LNP Government is unlocking the door to home ownership by abolishing stamp duty for eligible first home buyers purchasing or building a new home. Queenslanders now building their own home will now not pay a single cent on stamp duty.
