Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Brent Mickelberg, joined Member for Scenic Rim, Jon Krause, before Christmas on a wide-ranging inspection of long neglected roads in the Scenic Rim Electorate.
“Under a decade of decline under Labor, many Scenic Rim main roads were simply abandoned by the previous government,” said Mr Krause.
“The best way to tell the Minister about what we need is for him to see the state of these roads for himself – and he did. I will keep on working with the Minister to get upgrades and repairs into future budgets, or to seek funding from the Federal Government where that is needed.”
Among the sites inspected by the Minister and Mr Krause were:
Cunningham Highway and Amberley Intersection
Ipswich-Boonah Road (at Purga)
Boonah-Beaudesert Road at Coulson Crossing
Boonah-Rathdowney Road headed towards Maroon
Mount Lindesay Highway between Rathdowney and Beaudesert
Mundoolun Connection Road/Beaudesert-Nerang Road intersection
Canungra-Beaudesert-Nerang Road (Christie Street)
Mr Krause said the backlog of maintenance and repairs left behind by Labor has caused even greater damage to roads than should have occurred, but the LNP Government was determined to achieve better value for Queenslander taxpayers on projects and to deliver safer and more efficient connections for Scenic Rim communities.
“My advocacy saw the upgrade of the Mount Lindesay Highway / Kooralbyn Road Intersection, and the sealing of Beaudesert-Nerang Road at Biddaddaba after a 35-year campaign by locals.”
“There’s more work to be done across the region and I look forward to future repairs and upgrades being announced.”
