Member for Scenic Rim, Jon Krause, has welcomed the $2.5 million safety upgrade along Mount Lindesay Highway near the Kooralbyn Road intersection.
“This is an outcome that I have been advocating for more than a decade, and it is most gratifying to see the project competed on time and before Christmas,” he said.
The upgrade began in June this year under the Queensland and Australian Governments’ jointly funded Road Safety Program.
It includes dedicated right-turn and left-turn lanes from Mount Lindesay Highway onto Kooralbyn Road, as well as a reduced speed limit on Mount Lindesay Highway through the intersection from 100km/h to 80km/h, and through the school zone on school days from 80km/h to 60km/h.
Seven new streetlights have been installed to improve night safety, with the road widened and additional drainage works also undertaken.
“These improvements will increase safety for all road users travelling through this high-risk intersection, particularly those turning onto Kooralbyn Road,” said Mr Krause.
“The Mount Lindsay Highway is a vital connection for locals, visitors and freight and this intersection upgrade will make turning movements safer and smoother for those travelling within the Scenic Rim area.”
Queensland Senator, Corinne Mulholland, said the upgrade was a great example of how the Australian Government was making targeted, practical investments across Australia.
