COMMISSION OF INQUIRY INTO QUEENSLAND CFMEU ANNOUNCED

The Queensland Government has announced a Commission of Inquiry into the Queensland branch of the CFMEU.

The inquiry follows a scathing report by Geoffrey Watson SC after a three-month investigation that lifted the lid on the underbelly of Queensland’s construction industry.

In his report, Mr Watson said he feared the investigation only scratched the surface of the violence in the Queensland CFMEU.

Premier David Crisafulli said a Commission of Inquiry was needed to get the full picture on the culture of violence, intimidation and potential criminality of the CFMEU.

“The violence, misogyny and standover tactics from the CFMEU have no place in Queensland, and this is the first step in delivering the change that is needed,” he said.
