MAJOR SAFETY UPGRADES AT TAMBORINE INTERSECTIONS

Major safety improvements are about to begin at one of the busiest road intersections in the Scenic Rim electorate.

Work will focus on safety upgrades at the intersection of Beaudesert-Beenleigh Road and Mundoolun Connection Road, Tamborine and will include:

  • The installation of traffic lights
  • The inclusion of pedestrian signals in the new signalised intersection
  • A channelised left-turn lane from Mundoolun Connection Road onto Beaudesert- Beenleigh Road
  • Installation of central medians to separate vehicles and accommodate the traffic signals
  • New, wide pedestrian footpaths on both sides of Mundoolun Connection Road to link the school bus stops to the pedestrian crossings at the traffic signals
  • Warning signage to be installed to advise approaching motorists that signals are ahead, and
  • Surface resealing at the intersection.

In another major safety project, work will be carried out concurrently at the intersection of Beaudesert-Beenleigh Road and Mundoolun Road, Mundoolun.

It will include:

  • A dedicated left-hand turn on Mundoolun Road approach to Beaudesert-Beenleigh Road, and
  • New line marking to differentiate the left and right turn lanes for safety.

Both projects are expected to take six months to complete, weather and construction conditions permitting.

Member for Scenic Rim, Jon Krause, said the projects would make the area safer for families and school students.

“I have heard over a long period the concerns of locals about this section of road, and these upgrades are a significant step forward for road safety in our community,” he said.
