Jack’s Law is proving to be a powerful tool in keeping Queenslanders safe, with 82,648 people scanned, 603 weapons seized, 1,280 arrests made and 2,424 charges laid since the laws were expanded and made permanent by the Crisafulli Government.
These results show just how effective Jack’s Law is at stopping knife crime before it happens and ensuring our police have the powers they need to protect the community – while continuing to honour the legacy of Jack Beasley.
By removing unnecessary red tape and allowing police to conduct wanding in all public places without needing a warrant, officers can act quickly and decisively to keep weapons off our streets.
Locally, police on the Gold Coast have wanded 17,362 people and seized 159 weapons, while in Logan and Ipswich, 8,832 people have been scanned and 72 weapons seized.
For Scenic Rim residents, these results mean safer streets, safer public spaces, and greater peace of mind when out and about in our community.
State Member for Scenic Rim, Jon Krause MP, said Jack’s Law was already making a clear difference on the ground.
“Every weapon taken off the streets is a potential tragedy prevented,” Mr Krause said.
“Jack’s Law gives police the confidence and the capability to act early, stop knife crime before it escalates, and keep our communities safe.
“For families across the Scenic Rim, this is about feeling safe when you head to the shops, attend a local event, or enjoy time out in the community – and these results show the laws are working.”
