Boonah will get a new state-of-the-art fire station as part of a $134 million LNP Government funding boost for Queensland’s fire-fighting services.
It is one of eight fire-fighting stations in the State to benefit from the funding.
The existing Boonah station, located between Farley Street and Yeates Avenue, will be demolished and a new two-storey station with car parking and emergency vehicle exit constructed.
Minister for Fire, Disaster Recovery and Volunteers, Ann Leahy, said that in addition to the State-wide funding for modernised facilities, vehicles and equipment, funding would also be provided to support access for paid and volunteer firefighters to workers’ compensation.
Member for Scenic Rim, Jon Krause, in welcoming the initiative, said: “A new station is absolutely essential for Boonah.
“Despite saying the right things, the former Labor Government left this project underfunded.
“Hearing first-hand – by listening to local fire fighters – about how inadequate and unfit for purpose the existing station is, gave me the firepower to press for and obtain the required funding for a new station.
“I look forward to seeing the new station progress.”
