Scenic Rim MP Jon Krause is calling on the Queensland Labor Government to fund a shovel-ready project on the Mount Lindesay Highway north of Jimboomba – and stop stalling on using funding committed by the Federal Government.
“Stoney Camp Road to Chambers Flat Road will be upgraded to four lanes under Main Roads plans – but they are waiting for construction funding. The Federal Government has committed $30 million to the Mount Lindesay, but so far it has not been used by the State.”
“So why the hold up? Labor should use that Federal money, commit some of its own, and get work underway.”
“We all would like to see more work planned and ready to go along the whole highway, but the reality is this is the only major project substantially ready to go. Let’s do it.”
Mr Krause said that the loss of jobs due to COVID-19 meant that work on construction projects were more vital than ever, both on maintenance works on all parts of the Mount Lindesay Highway, and also major upgrades to keep the economy moving for Logan and Scenic Rim.
“My fighting for a fair share for our region has already seen Main Roads get stuck into planning to fix the “Jimboomba bottleneck” – it wasn’t on their radar two years ago – and deliver repairs at Laravale, Tamrookum and Gleneagle,” Mr Krause said.
“I know there’s still a lot more to be done. We all know how much the Mount Lindesay Highway needs improvement, especially when it comes to dealing with congestion from all the new homes Labor has allowed to be built around Jimboomba, Flagstone, Yarrabilba and Beaudesert – without any real road upgrade.”
“Labor should fund this project immediately – no more delays and dithering. Use the Federal $30 million and get on with it.”
