Member for Scenic Rim Jon Krause recently met with newly elected Mayor of Ipswich Teresa Harding to discuss the need for council to look after its rural residents.
“Ipswich City Council needs to do better for its rural residents. Now that we have elected Councillors and a Mayor in place, there should be no excuse for this to not be a priority.”
“Almost 12 months ago, an ambulance would not drive up Hogan Road, Grandchester, to collect an elderly resident because the road was so bad. He had to ‘phone a friend’ to take him to a waiting ambulance and that’s just not good enough.”
“Last week, 12 months later, two ambulances had trouble accessing a patient on Hogan Road again.”
“If you pay your rates, the very least you should expect is to have your council road maintained so emergency vehicles can get through.”
“It’s no secret that I opposed the new divisional boundaries that are no good for rural Ipswich. I have reminded Mayor Teresa Harding to look after rural Ipswich and invited her to visit Calvert recently to see just one of the local roads in poor condition – Waters Road, with a 1.5km section of unmaintained road.”
“I have repeatedly asked Council to ensure there is access for emergency vehicles – especially considering it is a rural area where ambulances and hospitals are further away.”
“It’s now over to her Council to look at this matter, and many others that the new Council have on their plate,” Mr Krause said.
