Member for Scenic Rim, Jon Krause, has welcomed plans by the Department of Transport and Main Roads to make safety improvements at the Tamrookum intersection of the Mount Lindesay Highway and Kooralbyn Road.
The busy intersection will be upgraded to include a dedicated left-turn lane from Mount Lindesay Highway onto Kooralbyn Road when heading north and a dedicated right-hand turn when heading south. Work is set to begin in June and continue for four months.
“The Mount Lindesay Highway and Kooralbyn Road improvements will make driving safer for all road users, especially those driving to and from Kooralbyn,
“The Government is committed to continually improving our roads and making them safer, and the lowered speed limits will provide a safer environment for parents, children and staff at Tamrookum State School.
“We thank the community for their patience during these important works.”
The Department of Transport & Main Roads has also determined that, following a speed limit review, the speed limit would be reduced along the highway at the intersection from 100kph to 60kph, and from 80kph to 60 kph through the school zone on school days.
While motorists can expect temporary reduced speeds during construction, the permanent reductions will be in place once the safety upgrades have been completed.
The Mount Lindesay Highway and Kooralbyn Road intersection safety improvements have been jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments under the Road Safety Program.
