With temperatures soaring as high as 40C in parts of Queensland recently, the LNP is asking Education Minister Grace Grace to turn off her office air-con until each of the 300 schools she promised to air-condition have their cooling systems installed.
Member for Scenic Rim Jon Krause said that around 150 schools which were promised air-conditioning by the start of this term were still waiting for Labor to keep its promise.
Thousands of students in schools in the Scenic Rim and across Queensland are struggling to learn in heatwave conditions.
Mr Krause said that he has been contacted by concerned parents who were informed that their child’s school would be air-conditioned by the beginning of 2020 and it hasn’t been done.
“Labor fail! Clearly, they are playing politics with this issue and cherry-picking certain schools.
“That’s totally wrong. Queensland teachers and students shouldn’t have to work in sweltering conditions.
“Air-conditioning our classrooms is a big investment, but the LNP believes it is worth it.
“The Minister for Education wouldn’t like to work in 40-degree heat and shouldn’t expect our kids and teachers to do just that.
“Unlike Labor, the LNP is committed to air-conditioning every state school in Queensland – without exception.
“Our state schools need cool classrooms and that’s what the LNP will deliver.”
