Scenic Rim MP Jon Krause is calling for transparency from the State Labor Government and for it to reveal if it has received any application from New Hope Mining to permit landfill operations at the controversial New Hope Jeebropilly mine site.
Mr Krause has made numerous representations on behalf of the Willowbank and surrounding community in relation to their concerns for the future for the mine site.
In recent correspondence sent to the Minister for Environment, Mr Krause again brought to attention the concerns raised by the community he represents – demanding that there be public consultation should any amendment be proposed to the Environmental Authority (EA) of this mine.
“New Hope Group has been mining under a condition that it return the mined area to grazing land conditions – now if there’s going to be any change to that Environmental Authority, to allow yet another landfill in Ipswich, then people deserve the chance to have their say on it all.”
Mr Krause said after 30 years of mining in the district the people of his electorate around Willowbank deserve better than to be treated as the dumping ground of southeast Queensland.
“This is not just a re-run of the Council process, which as it turns out is in court right now after Ipswich’s Interim Administrator refused to approve Lantrak’s proposal for a 30-50 year dump at Jeebropilly.”
“No, this goes straight to the heart of the Queensland Government. It is time for the Queensland Labor Goverment to come clean with Ipswich and reveal if any change has been proposed to the EA at the Jeebropilly mine site – and are the public going to get a say on it? Or is Labor just going to keep dumping on Ipswich?”
