A Cedar Grove resident has won $1000 cash after making a purchase at Backroads in Beaudesert and placing their receipt in a ‘Buy Local Christmas 2019’ box – one of over 40 boxes located at businesses across the Scenic Rim.
The Buy Local Christmas 2019 initiative run by Jon Krause MP, Scott Buchholz MP, and in conjunction with various Chambers of Commerce in the region, encouraged residents to support local businesses and provide a boost to the region following the ongoing devastation of drought and bushfires.
Mr Krause and Mr Buchholz thanked businesses and shoppers who made the Buy Local Christmas 2019 initiative a success in a recent video posted to ‘Jon Krause MP’ Facebook page, where the winner’s receipt was drawn out of a barrel.
Mr Krause said that there were many entrants and very positive feedback from businesses around the region about giving people an extra incentive to buy local at Christmas.
“In these tough times of drought, and as we continue to deal with the impacts of bushfires in our region, your contribution to the local economy helps our local businesses keep going, keep locals employed, and maintains their contribution to the community.”
“Local businesses need our support, not only for the jobs they provide but for the contribution that so many give back to our community through sponsorships and support for great causes. The incredible contribution made by local businesses during the recent bushfires in our region is just one example,” Mr Krause said.
Federal Member for Wright, Scott Buchholz said small businesses are the engine room of the Scenic Rim region, driving innovation, employment and economic growth.
“The benefits of supporting local businesses and shopping locally cannot be underestimated, when you shop locally, your money stays locally, with one dollar spent at a local business returning up to five times that amount through employee wages, rates and the purchase of materials and supplies.”
“I want to congratulate all participants and thank every local that spent in our region over Christmas. Let’s continue to shop local throughout 2020,” Mr Buchholz said.
Mr Krause and Mr Buchholz encouraged residents to continue buying local where they could in the Scenic Rim in 2020.
