Member for Scenic Rim Jon Krause has received news from the Department of Transport and Main Roads that a Town Entry Treatment will be installed at Kalbar in the first half of 2020.
Mr Krause said that numerous locals have consistently raised safety and speeding concerns with him, and he had then taken these up with police and Main Roads on multiple occasions.
Early last year after his lobbying, Main Roads advised Mr Krause that Kalbar had been put on the waiting list to receive a Town Entry Treatment. In mid-October 2019, Mr Krause received the news that the town had been prioritised against other localities in the state to receive the infrastructure in 2020.
A TET, according to TMR, is a speed management measure that involves providing physical measures at the transition from a high-speed rural environment to a lower speed environment that coincides with entering a township. TMR stated that TETs have been proven to reduce vehicle speeds and crash rates by enhancing driver awareness to the changing environment.
“Basically, this is about keeping drivers aware of their speed and surroundings, and reminds them to drive safely through town,” Mr Krause said.
Local Kalbar business owner, April Cornwell, has been a voice of the community, advocating for road safety in the town.
