Drainage improvements, shoulder widening and pavement sealing are underway on Boonah-Rathdowney Road to increase safety on this section of State road.
Consistent lobbying for better infrastructure in the district by State Member for Scenic Rim, Jon Krause, has paid a dividend for Fassifern Residents, with rehabilitation works on Boonah-Rathdowney Road, north of Bunjurgen Road, scheduled to be completed by the end of May 2019.
“Clearly there is more to be done – while welcome work is underway north of Bunjurgen Road, we really need to see the road fixed south of Bunjurgen Road as well. Let’s do the job properly now, while the crews are onsite.”
“As a local, I’ve experienced how bad this road is. It’s shocking in some parts. I’ve also been contacted by residents who rely on this road daily and are concerned about their safety and the safety of other motorists, as the road is presently in a poor and dangerous condition in a number of places.”
Mr Krause has made numerous representations on behalf of the community in regards to the condition of Boonah-Rathdowney Road and had a small win when the section of road near Mount Alford Road was resealed in late 2018.
Early this year, Mr Krause raised the condition of the road again with the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
The Deputy Regional Director of the TMR South Coast Region subsequently advised Mr Krause that the Department identified that improvements were required on this section of the Boonah-Rathdowney Road.
“I’m glad that the Department saw with their own eyes how bad the condition of the road is and recognised that something had to be done about it quickly – let’s hope that the scheduled works are completed by the end of May as scheduled and are done efficiently and at a high-standard.”
