Queensland primary school students are being encouraged to enter the 2027 Farm Safety Calendar competition.
The competition, which blends creativity with important safety messages, is now open to primary students from Prep to Year Six.
Member for Scenic Rim, Jon Krause, said farm and rural workplaces continued to account for a disproportionate share of workplace fatalities in Queensland and the calendar would help raise awareness about safety hazards.
He said 12 artworks created by the students would be selected for the calendar, each representing a different safety theme for the month.
“The calendar aims to raise safety awareness about farm and rural hazards among primary school students and their families.”
Workplace Health and Safety Queensland Safety Ambassador, Riana Crehan, said that while farms were incredible places, they were also associated with risks.
“This competition helps kids understand those risks and encourages them to think about safety in their everyday lives, covering important topics like electrical safety, animal handling, overhead powerlines, and hygiene after contact with animals,” she said.
More than 40,000 copies of the calendar will be printed for statewide distribution. The competition is open until 31 August. The 12 winning entrants will receive a $250 gift card and $500 for their school.
