The recent graduation of 61 new officers from the Police Academy in Oxley brings the total number of new police officers since the election to over 1600.
“We delivered on our promise in less than 18 months,” said Queensland Premier David Crisafulli.
“This is a big boost to the blue line and it’s only going to get bigger as we continue to deliver more police.”
Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Dan Purdie, said the new police officers were now on the ground in communities where crime had spiralled out of control under the former Labor Government.
“We’re giving our police the resources they need following a decade of decline in which officers left the service in droves,” he said.
Member for Scenic Rim, Jon Krause, said more police, stronger laws, early intervention and rehabilitation were all part of the Government’s plan to make Queensland safer.
“Of the 1625 new police officers, 128 will bolster services in Logan and 96 in Ipswich,” he said.
