State Member for Scenic Rim, Jon Krause, has again called on the State Labor Government to take action to address congestion on the Mount Lindesay Highway by widening the exit at Beaudesert State High School – something he has argued in favour of for five years.
Mr Krause received notice recently that Main Roads will be seeking funding through the School Transport Infrastructure Program (STIP) by the end of June to address the issues of traffic congestion at Beaudesert State High School – a positive step, but one that needs to now be backed by government funding.
“If you have driven in the school zone in front of Beauy High then you would know what a bottleneck it is. What I’m proposing is simple – widen the exit so it can take a line of traffic turning left, and a line turning right – easing the build-up of cars inside the campus.”
“I know that students have not been at school recently due to COVID-19, so the bottleneck here hasn’t been an issue. But as soon as all our students return to the classroom, we will back to where we started.”
“I am listening to the concerns of parents, teachers and the community about safety and traffic congestion and have made numerous representations to the Minister for Transport and Main Roads, the Minister for Education and the Main Roads District Director, asking them to fix the issue.”
Mr Krause said that he will continue to work with the school community for improvements to safety and congestion.
“I will continue fighting to bring our fair share of infrastructure to Beaudesert and the Scenic Rim community,” Mr Krause said.
