Consistent lobbying for better roads in the district by State MP, Jon Krause, has paid a dividend for Fassifern Residents, with Mr Krause receiving confirmation that rehabilitation works on Boonah-Rathdowney Road, around Bunjurgen Road, are scheduled to start in March-April this year, following his lobbying.
“As a local, I’ve experienced how bad this road is. It’s shocking in some parts. I’ve also been contacted by residents who rely on this road daily and are concerned about their safety and the safety of other motorists, as the road is presently in a poor and dangerous condition in a number of places.”
Mr Krause has made numerous representations on behalf of the community in regards to the condition of Boonah-Rathdowney Road and had a small win when the section of road near Mount Alford Road was resealed in late 2018.
Early this year, Mr Krause raised the condition of the road again with the Department of Transport and Main Roads, requesting that an inspection be carried out on the section of road between Bunjurgen Road and Mount French Road.
The Deputy Regional Director of the TMR South Coast Region has since advised Mr Krause that during the requested inspection, the Department identified that improvements were required on this section of the Boonah-Rathdowney Road.
“I’m glad that the Department saw with their own eyes how bad the condition of the road is and recognised that something had to be done about it quickly – let’s hope that the scheduled works start in March and are completed efficiently and at a high-standard.”
“I’m aware more needs to be done, especially down near Maroon and towards Rathdowney. I encourage all residents to continue contacting me with your concerns about our road-networks so that I can lobby on your behalf and get the Labor Government to deliver our fair share of funding and infrastructure the Scenic Rim Electorate needs,” Mr Krause said.
