State Member for Scenic Rim, Jon Krause, and the Aratula Residents Committee have started down the road to obtaining grant funding for the restoration of the a heritage cemetery.
A major component of the committee’s proposed project is to restore heritage graves and to preserve the historical significance of the cemetery.
Following a recent meeting with committee members, Mr Krause commended their enthusiasm and said he was looking forward to working with them.
“It’s vital to preserve our history,” he said. “Unless we take practical steps like those being proposed by the residents of Aratula we will see a gradual and inexorable loss of our tangible links with our past.”
Mr Krause and the committee have previously worked together on other projects and were successful in getting road safety improvements to the Cunningham Highway through Aratula.
