Remembrance Day was observed at different locations throughout the Scenic Rim Electorate on November 11, and I had the privilege of joining the more than 200 attendees at the Tamborine Mountain War Memorial.
Originally called Armistice Day to celebrate the end of the First World War, Remembrance Day is commemorated on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, to pause for a minute’s silence to remember the Australian men and women who have served and sacrificed in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.
Among the wide cross-section of people attending the service were Scot, Willie Milne, who joined the Royal Navy at the age of 15 and went on to serve 25 years before retiring from active duty.
