New station opened for Mount Alford Rural Fire Brigade

The Crisafulli Government is making Queensland safer with the official opening of a brand-new station for the Mount Alford Rural Fire Brigade.

Delivered on time and on budget, the purpose-built facility provides local volunteers with a modern base from which to prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies, ensuring they are ready for the upcoming bushfire season.

After years of the former Labor Government failing to properly invest in frontline emergency services infrastructure, the Crisafulli Government is backing volunteer firefighters with the facilities and resources they need to protect their communities.

The new station features three appliance parking bays, a dedicated training room, office space, personal amenities and storage for firefighting equipment and personal protective clothing.

The investment will strengthen emergency response capability across the Scenic Rim while ensuring brigade members have the facilities they need to continue serving their community.

Minister for Fire, Disaster Recovery and Volunteers Ann Leahy said the new station demonstrated the Crisafulli Government’s commitment to backing volunteer firefighters right across Queensland.

“Mount Alford Rural Fire Brigade volunteers give their time to protect their community, and it’s important they have modern facilities that support the vital work they do,” Minister Leahy said.

“The Crisafulli Government is making Queensland safer by delivering the frontline infrastructure Labor neglected, ensuring our volunteers have the facilities and resources they need to prepare for emergencies and protect their communities.”

Member for Scenic Rim, Jon Krause, said the new station would support local volunteer firefighters for many years to come.

“Mount Alford’s volunteers are a key part of the Boonah Group, and I am glad that the long campaign to build a new station for Mount Alford has paid off,” Mr Krause said.

“As early as 2015, I was working to help the brigade towards a new facility. This is a fantastic outcome for the brigade and the wider community, strengthening local emergency response capability ahead of future bushfire seasons and other emergencies.”

Rural Fire Service Queensland South Eastern Region Acting Deputy Chief Officer Joel Gordon said the brigade welcomed the new station.

“Rural fire volunteers don’t just respond to fires, they work year-round supporting their communities in response to emergencies and also undertaking vital mitigation activities to reduce bushfire risk,” Mr Gordon said.

“This new facility is purpose-built to meet their needs and ensure they are able to continue to carry out their crucial role.”
