While the Queensland Government’s tough new youth crime laws will ensure there are consequences for actions, it believes that one of the best ways to reduce crime is to intervene early to divert young people from pursuing a life of crime.
That’s why it has launched several new early intervention programs, including its $50 million Kickstarter program.
The first round of funding in the Kickstarter program will provide grants of up to $300,000 to Gold Standard Early Intervention programs for education, life skills, and support for young people.
Member for Scenic Rim, Jon Krause, said implementing effective early intervention programs was critical to arrest the cycle of youth crime in Queensland.
“Our first round of Kickstarter funding is now open for the best new early intervention ideas and programs. Grants will be provided to the best new early intervention ideas,” he said.
“We’re putting the call out to organisations who can deliver community-led initiatives that provide the education, training and support needed for troubled youth to get back on the right track.”
