With land valuations increasing by an overall 22 per cent across the Scenic Rim Electorate since 2023, State Member, Jon Krause, has again echoed community concerns about their potential impact on land tax and council rates.
The new land valuations take effect on 30 June 2025.
The Queensland Valuer-General said property market changes in Scenic Rim were being driven by interstate, overseas and investment buyers, migration and population growth, and increases in various rural commodity prices.
Property owners who believe their land valuation is incorrect and can supply information to support their claim, can lodge an objection online at www.qld.gov.au/landvaluation or by post to the address shown on their valuation notice by 26 May 2025. They can also contact the dedicated land valuation call centre by phoning 1300 664 217.
“It’s a worrying time for some in the community,” said Mr Krause.
He said that councils had discretionary powers over how they calculated rates in relation to land valuations.
Mr Krause said it was up to individual property owners to appeal against the increases. Under the legislation governing the valuation process, no joint or group appeals were permitted, and there was also no process to lobby the Valuer-General to reconsider valuations for an entire area or locality.
“I encourage property owners to appeal their valuation as individual landowners if they disagree with it. My office can provide information about how to make and submit an appeal and has helped numerous residents in the past.”
