The School Student Broadband Initiative (SSBI) will continue to provide free home internet to up to 30,000 unconnected households till 2028.
The SSBI, which aims to boost educational opportunities for students without access to the internet, currently services more than 23,000 households nationwide and will now provide free NBN home internet for eligible families until 30 June 2028.
In welcoming the extension to the program, State Member for Scenic Rim, Jon Krause said:
“This extension to the SSBI will allow students who otherwise would not have had access to the NBN to stay connected for longer, helping to bridge the digital divide.
“With the increasing emphasis on digital technologies across all sectors, it is vital that every Australian school student has access to online learning platforms and resources.”
Qualifying families will now have until 31 December 2025, or until the program reaches its cap of 30,000 households, to redeem their voucher with a participating provider.
