LNP announces fast-tracked funding for Mount Lindesay Highway

An LNP Government will boost funding so upgrades on the Mount Lindesay Highway between Jimboomba and Beaudesert can be fast tracked if elected later this month.

The highway services one of the fastest growing residential areas in South East Queensland, and the road desperately needs upgrading to cope with increasing demand.

LNP Member for Scenic Rim Jon Krause said an LNP Government would provide a $7 million boost to unlock the potential of the corridor, opening the door to federal funding to upgrade the highway faster.

“Our state needs a fresh start and the LNP has the right plan for Queensland’s future,” said Mr Krause.

“Local residents know all too well the issues facing this road, especially with increasing residential growth in the corridor and more heavy vehicles from businesses like SCT at Bromelton.

“We need a safe and efficient road network for people to drive to work and school on, and to encourage businesses to invest at Bromelton and in the Beaudesert district to create local jobs.

“That’s the LNP’s priority.

“The Labor Government has left this road in the slow lane.

“Labor has spent nothing and done nothing to plan upgrades on this stretch of highway.

“The only things in the pipeline are those funded by the LNP Federal Government up until when it left office in 2022.

“Labor’s own plan says in black and white that they won’t even start planning upgrades down to Beaudesert until 2027 or later.

“That’s simply not good enough. This is part of the National Highway, but to get federal funding for upgrades, you need to plan them.

“Labor’s failures have overseen $20 billion-plus in project cost blowouts that could have instead delivered critical infrastructure like these much-needed upgrades for the Mount Lindesay Highway.

“Queenslanders must show Labor the door in 2024, to ensure the right focus on delivering the programs, services and communities for our state,” he said.

“Only the LNP stands ready to deliver a fresh start for Queensland.”
