Roads – and getting more funding to fix them – is always a key focus for me.
There’s a lot of repairs, maintenance and upgrades to be done – made harder by the fact that this Labor Government has let the backlog of repairs blow out to over $5 billion.
Ipswich Boonah Road is a busy road for locals going to work, school all across the district. A section through Washpool towards Milbong is especially in need of work, and I have been on Main Roads’ case to carry out work to fix the many potholes, bumps and other deficiencies that make the drive less safe and efficient.
In a welcome announcement, Main Roads has committed to start repair works in the 2024/25 financial year (see reference map below). This comes after persistent pressure from my representations and the community, underscoring the critical need for these improvements. Main Road exact statement was: “TMR is currently finalising design for pavement rehabilitation works, and minor drainage improvements where needed, on Ipswich-Boonah Road… Please see image below for extent of works planned. Construction is expected to commence in the 2024/25 financial year.”
This funding is a small step forward. Beyond Ipswich Boonah Road, investments are still needed for other vital routes such as Boonah Rathdowney Road, Kalbar Connection Road, the Amberley Interchange, roads crisscrossing Tamborine Mountain and the Mount Lindesay Highway.
Our community deserves better, and I will continue to push for our fair share of resources.
