In recent months I have been approached by a number of Scenic Rim residents regarding kidney dialysis services at Beaudesert Hospital.
In particular, their focus has been on the need for a peritoneal dialysis nurse and services at Beaudesert Hospital, so they don’t have to make a two-hour round trip to the Logan Hospital.
Currently, peritoneal dialysis is generally undertaken at home following the completion of five to ten days of training at the Logan Hospital Peritoneal Dialysis Clinic.
In response to my most recent correspondence with the Minister for Health, I have been advised that Metro South Hospital and Services have reviewed my concerns and determined that a peritoneal dialysis service at the Beaudesert Hospital “remains unfeasible due to the small number of patients in the Beaudesert Hospital catchment who could engage with a service based at that hospital.”
This is the same outcome as that which followed the tabling of a petition in Parliament in 2022 for peritoneal dialysis nurses and services at Beaudesert Hospital. I understand this issue is of concern to local residents and will continue advocating for improved services to be offered locally.
