Tamborine Mountain’s popular Elevation Café was the focal point for the mountain’s first Coffee with a Cop initiative on May 19.
Coffee with a Cop is a police initiative aimed at strengthening relationships between the police and the community.
I was joined at the event by Amanda Hay, Scenic Rim Division One Councillor, and we appreciated the opportunity to meet with local and visiting police officers, as well as a steady stream of residents.
Acting Officer in Charge, Tamborine Mountain Police, Sergeant Linda Smith, said Coffee with a Cop’ was now a regular event in Australia and other parts of the world.
“We do it to have informal chats with people in a comfortable environment, to promote conversations and instil community confidence,” she said.
With free coffee in hand, residents who stopped by at Elevation Café were encouraged to share their views and raise any concerns they might have in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.
Visiting crime prevention officers were also on hand to offer advice on ways for residents to better protect their properties.
