“Grossly irresponsible and [a] desperate vote-buying exercise”, which the government “simply cannot afford”. That’s how economist Gene Tunny, of Queensland’s Adept Economics, described the Government’s latest handout on electricity bills. Basically, this Government is borrowing money not only to keep its own lights on, but yours too!
The cost of living is a huge issue. I know that many households are doing it tough. The Government’s latest rebate is a spectacular admission that they have failed, and throwing money at the issue only kicks the problem down the road (READ – until after the next election). Electricity prices are skyrocketing, and increasing faster in Queensland than anywhere else in the nation. Just ask small business owners, some who have seen their power bills double in the last 18 months. For over 1000 days, the Callide C power station has not worked – removing 10% of electricity supply in Queensland. A massive amount of money is being spent on expensive and unreliable energy sources. Labor has failed on electricity prices.
The LNP’s Maintenance Guarantee policy is to ensure our generators do not have another Callide-like disaster that send prices through the roof. We need affordable, reliable energy – for our families, farmers and small businesses.
