State Member for Scenic Rim, Jon Krause, says all levels of government working together is key to addressing safety concerns on popular Tamborine Mountain tourist hotspot Gallery Walk.
“I have heard the growing calls from residents about traffic incidents and pedestrian safety on Gallery Walk,” he said.
“Following a recent pedestrian accident, I made it clear to the State’s Main Roads Department that urgent repairs were required to a damaged traffic island at the northern end of the road.”
“However, this is just one example of a broader range of issues in relation to Gallery Walk and this demands an approach involving all levels of government – it’s a State road, the local Council plays a key role in managing parking and footpaths, and the Federal Government can often help fund improvement projects.”
While acknowledging that the road’s infrastructure falls under the authority of the State Government, Federal Member for Wright, Scott Buchholz, said it was essential for all tiers of government to work hand in hand wherever possible.
“Ensuring the safety and accessibility of our local roads and footpaths is paramount,” he said.
“Concerns are being raised about Gallery Walk conditions, parking facilities and the state of footpaths, posing safety risks to visitors and locals alike.
“Our common goal has to be to find a lasting solution that addresses these safety concerns and provides a benefit to the community.”
Mr Krause added that he had met with the Council about its Gallery Walk improvement project in July 2023 – a project Council is still seeking State and Federal funding for – and would be seeking a further meeting with Council to obtain any new or updated details about these plans.
