Transplant Cricket Charity Match

Organ donation is a medical process where organs or tissue are removed from a donor and transplanted into someone who is very ill or dying from organ failure.

It’s a personal decision that can give life to others.

I applaud Tamborine Mountain Canungra Cricket Club, also known as the Bushrats, who for the ninth year running hosted the Cricket Transplant Bash at Tamborine Mountain to help raise awareness of the importance of organ and tissue donation.

And a massive thankyou to all the event sponsors of the event which each year is held in honour of Chris Wills and Leah Barker.

Some great fun was had playing cricket too – even by those who had not padded up for years and may have needed a few net sessions before batting – including me.

Well done to all the teams who participated in the two-day event, including one from Bendigo. It was an honour for me to be a guest member of the Bushies team that emerged victors in a tough match against the Lucky Stars.

Everyone over the age of 16 can register to donate their organs and tissues on the Australian Organ Donor Register (AODR).

It doesn’t matter how old you are, or even if you think you’re not healthy enough – you can still register. A specialist donation team will make an assessment on a case by case basis, and there is every chance that some of your organs and tissues may be suitable for donation.

Only 2% of Australians die in a way that makes it possible for them to donate their organs. This is why every potential donor is precious.

It’s important to talk to your family and those around you about your decision to become an Organ Donor.
