The cost of living is biting hard across Queensland. We need to find ways to ease the pressure on families, farmers and small businesses.
In Parliament in March, the LNP moved to expand an inquiry into cost of living to deal with things that the Queensland Government has control over.
Labor blocked this move, meaning that this inquiry cannot investigate the impact of rising electricity costs, including Queensland’s 20% increase in electricity prices, the impact of rising insurance prices or rising water costs, and transport costs.
Electricity bills are rising, and Labor’s handling of the Callide power plant explosion, now more than 1000 days ago, stands as a catastrophic failure. It has ripped affordable, reliable energy from Queensland’s power network.
Only under pressure from the Australian Energy Regulator and the Federal Court did Labor admit to maintenance lapses causing the disaster. The LNP has been advocating for a maintenance guarantee for power plants, and wanted inquiries expanded into rising costs of living but Labor refused to address the crisis and has instead blocked the LNP’s bid to expand the cost of living inquiry.
The LNP & I remain committed to holding the Government accountable and fighting for solutions to ease the cost of living pressures facing Queenslanders.
