Krause Presents Harper’s Crossing Petition in Parliament

Scenic Rim MP, Jon Krause, presented a petition in parliament requesting that works urgently commence to upgrade the singe lane Harper’s Crossing to a two-lane bridge.

“Harper’s Crossing on Mount Alford Road has needed upgrading for years. It is an accident waiting to happen – the Government knows this, but has failed to act.”

Mr Krause said that the petition to upgrade Harper’s Crossing was very well supported.

“The whole district around Boonah and the Fassifern use this road, including tourists and heavy vehicles in business like farmers and the hatchery at Mt Alford.”

“Nearly 1100 people signed the petition showing the real concern there is from locals about the safety of this bridge.”

This single lane bridge has contributed to a number of accidents and near misses and although works have been undertaken to improve safety, accidents continue to occur.

The petition requested that the Government urgently commit to undertake upgrading the singe lane Harper’s Crossing to a two-lane bridge and in the short term, implement increased traffic safety by undertaking traffic data count, installing flashing warning lights, larger give way and one lane bridge signage on both approaches, and undertake vegetation management to improve visibility.

“I hope that the Labor Government will seriously consider the amount of people who supported this petition to increase safety on an important piece of infrastructure in the Scenic Rim Electorate.”

“There is a $5.85 billion road maintenance backlog under the Labor Government – something we know all to well in our region as there are so many roads that aren’t up to scratch. As your local MP, I’m fighting to bring more services to our region and improve our roads,” Mr Krause said.
